A Visit to Green-Wood Cemetery

I love the quietness, the mystery and the numerous discoveries found in this cemetery. I visit often, with camera slung around my neck, searching out the unseen.

Surfboard Paintings

I love the ocean but have never surfed. My focus has always been beneath the waves, snorkeling or scuba diving, creatures in full view. To sit atop a board, with legs dangling just below the water's surface, terrifies me. For I know what is beneath me, I have seen it.

But to feel the thrill of riding a wave and embrace the experience first hand is enticing. So for now I dream about it and paint smaller versions, waiting for the opportunity to come...

Geometric Compositions

New creations speaking in candy colors, electric movements. Taking the path of geometric patterning, flowing energy pathways. The colors, the gestures, all come together to create mysterious encounters.

New work at Pierogi Gallery, LES

A year ago Pierogi Gallery moved from Williamsburg, Brooklyn to the Lower East Side, NYC. The new space is gorgeous and the hood is hip and gritty. Chelsea give it up, LES is back!

Today I added three new pieces to the flat files, see below.  Also added are six smaller works on book pages. Anyone can go and ask to see my work. The shows and flat files are curated by Joe Amrhein.  A recent article about the flat files: Pierogi Flat Files featured in Monocle

Painting Vacation

Making time to paint while on vacation is vital for me. For my most recent road trip to northern NY and coming back down through VT, I brought acrylic paints and a rolled up canvas. Below is the final piece, and the cabin on top of a mountain where I painted most of it. We stayed in a yurt, tented, and in a cabin in a mountain top as our final destination. We had to bring in our own water and the electricity was provided by a gas generator which we turned off at night. That is when the mouse came out to play.  Did I mention the outhouse? It was an adventure for sure for this city cat.

This is an up-cycled painting. The original (not mine) was made in mass of 100 pieces to sell. I purchased a slew of them at Housing Works in NYC. I think they were created for hotel paintings.

Award honoring:

"Cecile Adler Cliffer was a cutting-edge family therapist, counselor, educator, and community participant. She was active as a board member of the League of Women Voters and Parents without Partners. She co-created Kids in Divorce, a counseling program for both parents and children. Her accomplishments, too many to list, include the Susan B. Anthony Award from the South Suburban Chapter of the National Organization for Women for “Pursuit of Truth” in 1983 for the Women’s Self-Discovery Program, which she helped develop and taught from 1963-72.

Ms. Cliffer matured in the art environment of the 1950’s and 60’s Modernism Movement. The geometric simplicity and essential quality of style of that time span imbued her taste."

I thank her family for sponsoring this award in the name of a woman of such great merit. May her accomplishments live on.

Summer Adventures!

I finally got out of the office to get some much needed outdoor time. I started by driving to Potsdam, NY for a wedding party of a very old friend. It was awe inspiring to see so much sky, eat food grown out back and drink his home made koomochie whatever drink from berries. He always loved the outdoors, and finally found a home that suited his personality.
